Healing a cold or flu with Acupuncture
Its winter time so what does that mean? It’s the wonderful cold and flu season.
Many times, I get clients that call and apologies that they can’t attend their appointment because they have come down with one of those yucky cold or flus. So what better time that I bring it to their attention, that this is the optimal time to come in and have an acupuncture treatment to assist the release of pathogens to heal the body.
Cold and flu symptoms do vary and most confuse the two. It is vital to know the difference between cold and flu symptoms. A cold is milder respiratory illness compared to the flu, whereas the flu can be more serious and result in other health issues such as pneumonia and even hospitalisation. Though, they can both make you feel pretty horrible for quite some time.
Cold symptoms usually begin with a sore throat and sneezing which then follows with nasal symptoms such as feeling congested or a runny nose that could lead to a cough. Sometimes people also get headaches and body aches and mild tiredness. Fever is not common in adults but could be seen in children in a slight way. If cold symptoms linger for more than a week then the cold could turn into a bacterial infection.
Flu symptoms are more severe cold symptoms that come quicker. Common flu symptoms are a sore throat, headaches, severe muscle and body aches and congestion with a cough. Flu sufferers may also have a moderate to high fever (although not everyone will run a fever) and shaking chills, and severe fatigue that may last up to a couple of weeks.
So why is acupuncture a great way to help the body heal itself naturally?
Acupuncture is most effective when treating any form of cold or flu, and at any stage of the infection. The longer one waits to treat an infectious disease, the longer it takes to clear the pathogen. When treating cold or flu symptoms, the results are always more effective if the treatment begins at the earliest stage. You can even see quicker relief with the use of Chinese Medicine.
Acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, and moxibustion can provide immediate relief from cold/flu symptoms. Needles are inserted into acupuncture points along the meridians to assist with the various individual symptoms. Acupuncture speeds up the healing process by boosting the body’s natural defence system. Chinese herbs also increase the body’s ability to fight it themselves without the need of having to take antibiotics.
Chinese Medicine’s primary concern is maintaining a state of balance within the human body and in relationship to the outside environment. Once you have achieved this, your resistance to illnesses will be sufficient to keep you from catching another cold or flu. We are all exposed to viruses all the time, and mostly the people who get sick have been under a lot of stress, fatigued, have allergies, or are out of alignment.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are effective for prevention and treatment of colds and flu because they adjust the energetic balance within and strengthening your immune system. People that receive regular acupuncture treatments get sick less often. If you have a cold or flu, acupuncture and Chinese Medicine will definitely help you recover and get you back to feeling human again faster.
